FK/I2GPT is QRT
Monday, 09 January, 2012
FK/I1GPT is QRT.
After 1137 QSOs,  my operations from one of the best places in the world are finished.
421 QSOs with JA stations and 74 with Italian Stations, mainly on 20 meters (793 QSOs) and 15 meters (298).
I have been quite disappointed by 18 MHz band: no signals, long CQ series without answers. Probably a wrong knowledge of the propagation on this band on my side, but activity has never been exciting. Only 18 contacts, some on sked.  Cluster spots didn't help...
Next time I will try to be more effective on this band.

DX Code of Conduct
Sunday, 08 January, 2012
I am always more surprised by the low quality of behavior of more and more operators nowadays. During operations from FK I found sometimes very difficult to operate because of rudeness and total lack of common sense in some operators on the other  side.
The  typical bad operator normally:
1) calls without listen to the dx station
2) does not follow the rhythm of  the pile-up
3) does not know CW (for cw contacts) and uses a decoder (badly)
4) uses too much power and a bad antenna
5) contacts  the dx station several times per band
6) keeps the QSO longer than needed with long preambles (gm es gd dx dr om tnx rst 599 ur rst 599 gl es hny ciao de xy0abc xy0abc tu while the pile-up grows)
7) does not hear the dx station. Just relies on cluster
8) has a bad manipulation (ti tiiii taaa ta ta taaa ta tiii ti ta taaaati taaaa)
9) misuses the tail-ending .

I am sure  I could add many others, as everybody.

For all, my prayer is: follow  the DX Code of Conduct!

Antennae
Tuesday, 03 January, 2012
I am using, as usual now for me, half wave end feed antennae for all the bands, from 40 meters to 10 meters.
I am very happy of them: easy mounting (just a 10 meters fishing rod for 20 meters and above), no ground plane, efficiency close to 100%.
Today I am going to mount all the antennae, in order to be ready for all the bands.
Obviously, only CW...

Propagation from FK
Tuesday, 03 January, 2012
I was quite surprised to heard so many EU stations yesterday during my first operation from OC-033 on 20 meters band.
It was about 11 am UTC and I thought that I could have contacts only with some VK or JA or asian stations, while EU was predominant with very good signals.

FK/I2GPT
Tuesday, 03 January, 2012
I am finally arrived to Lifou Island (New Caledonia, IOTA OC-033) where I started to operate.
I'm very sorry for the quality of my transmission, but I can't use my automatic keyer so I arranged a CW paddle with two switches (those for abat-jours, you know... hi) tapped on a battery charger...
.
I hope that it will continue to work untill the end of operations....

Clublog

I want to thank the friends of www.clublog.org, that provide a fantastic service to the Ham community.
They host all the logs you want and allow you to organize your searchlog facilities. These are very easy to use and can be embedded in your website. You can also prepare a form for on-line QSL request.
All the logs of my dx-speditions are hosted on Clublog.
I recommend to use this service and donate.

K9AY
Sunday, 27 November, 2011
I am very interested now in improving our reception ability on low bands at our radio club.
We are equiped with two inverted-vee dipoles (one in 160 and one in 80 meters) the are good but, as normal, are not very good for reception (high noise and low signals covered by noise).
So I searched for a project of K9AY antenna, pre-amp and switch box in order to build the antenna and improve our reception during contests on low bands.

The adventures of I2GPT Dx-pedition and Contest Team
Friday, 25 November, 2011
Me, Paolo, Giorgio, Marco, Roby and Mauro have started to participate to some contests as Multi Operators Team (from Magenta Radio Club, IQ2MG) and  to organize some dx-peditions, Albania and EU-058 Sainte Marguerite Island above all.
It seams we all are very motivated to organize these operations and we will continue to find new corners to offer to our fellow hams in the world.

Friends
Friday, 25 November, 2011
Giorgio (IZ2BKP), Paolo (IW2HKW), Marco (IZ2QCP), Mauro (IZ2FLX) and Roby (IK2PGM) are really fantastic friends.
I met them the first time a couple of years ago at Magenta ARI Radio Club and now they became some of my best friends.
I must consider myself very lucky: they are very good friends, reliable and open, and very good Radio Operators.
I think we will spend a lot of time together around a radio.
